What was your budget?

  • Dress: $150
  • Photography: $750
  • Catering: $3,000
  • Cake: $40 (homemade cheesecakes)
  • Venue: $400 (for two nights and three days)
  • Flowers: $50 (my mom planted them!)
  • Decor: $50 (mostly borrowed)
  • Other: $200 or so for other food (we served breakfast for everyone as well as snack/lunch)

Total: $4590

How many guests did you have?

We had 45 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We had an overnight indoor camping style wedding which was very “us.”

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

My mom planted flowers which looked great on all the tables, and we put up photos of us (from when we were kids and from our years together) on one of the walls.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Not invite a million people, not conform to “traditional wedding” stuff, and not listen to anyone else’s suggestions! You don’t need special flowers, crazy decorations, or even table clothes (though it was a constant debate with my mom leading up to the wedding!)

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Do what you want. Do something fun. If you don’t want bridesmaids or toasts, or flower girls, or any other thing everyone else seems to have… you don’t need to. We didn’t and we are so grateful for the fact that we just went along with our vision rather than everyone else’s.

What was your biggest splurge?

Our catered meal and having a photographer.

What was your favorite detail?

All the homemade food! My mom did an awesome job cooking and baking before so we had breads and baked goods through the whole wedding. Also having homemade cheesecake for dinner and us (the bride and groom) cooking breakfast for our guests the next  morning was an awesome touch.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

When I walked down the aisle and saw that Kevin’s eyes were wet.
