Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?

We did most of the decorations ourselves. The supplies were inexpensive and we made the centerpieces and table decorations.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We wanted our day to be the least stressful that it could be, so we skipped some of the traditions that didn’t resonate with us. We didn’t write our own vows or wear and throw a garter. We also made our reception a drop in event. Guests didn’t have to stay the whole time. They could come and go as they wished.

What is the most memoriable moment of your day?

Our first dance as husband and wife was so magical. We loved that moment and felt so loved and supported by everyone around us!

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We held the event at a church that was free. It was such a great money saver.

What was your biggest splurge?

We splurged on the flowers and photographer. We wanted to remember the day with photos and I always knew I wanted lots of beautiful flowers at my wedding.

What was your favorite details?

I absolutely adored my dress. I got it for a steal, but you couldn’t tell at all. I felt like a princess.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

It is so important to think about how the event will make you and your guests feel. Forget about how fancy or impressive it will be and focus on the feeling of the event. Is it warm and inviting? Are you surrounding yourself with people that you are excited to celebrate with?

Share any additional details you’d like us to know about your event:

We had our reception in the evening after dinner and didn’t provide a full meal. We had an Italian Cream Soda bar where guests could make their own drink.

A friend from church made the cake for us as a wedding present!

We bought some decorations like candles, but we borrowed or already had everything else. My grandpa built us an archway and hung all his Christmas lights in the pavilion.

The church we held it at had a DJ system that they let us use for free. Samuel’s brother DJ’s for us.

I found my dress on a random website that sells discount dresses. The shipping took about 6 weeks, but the quality was surprisingly great I took it to a seamstress and had it altered to fit me perfectly.

Samuel already had everything that he wore, except his tie.

There was a huge sale going on and we got a great deal from Minted, then hand delivered most of the invites.

One of my bridemaids did my hair and makeup for me and it turned out great!
