helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

Today we have the sweetest Florida wedding that comes in at $5K! Though from New York, Jeanine and Jimmy opted for a destination wedding in Florida to save money. I love the lakeside, farm venue they chose and the lovely peach details the incorporated into their big day. And how sweet is their cupcake table! How impressive that they incoporated so many handmade details even though it was a destination wedding. Enjoy this budget-savvy wedding! xoxo, Jessica

What was your budget?

We pretty much tried to save money wherever we could, while still having a beautiful wedding day. It helped that we were both very relaxed and wanted it to be quite casual. We wanted to keep everything under $5,000.

  • My dress: $500 with alterations.
  • Groom’s outfit: $100
  • Venue: Free, thanks to grandparents who have worked at the farm for many years. We saved major money here and didn’t mind at all that the wedding was on a Monday!
  • Chairs: Supplied by the venue
  • Dinner/Drinks: $2,000
  • Cupcakes: $100
  • S’mores Bar: $50
  • Officiant: $150
  • Linens: $250
  • Photography: $700
  • DJ: $600
  • Hair and makeup for bridal party: $250
  • Bouquets & Boutonnieres: Free, wedding gift from sister
  • Decorative Flowers: Free, wedding gift from sister
  • Other desserts: Free since I made them at work and brought them on the plane!
  • Decorations: Supplied by the venue for free

How many guests did you have?

We had a total of 52 guests.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Our venue made it easy for us to add personal touches. We both loved the rustic, natural beauty of the farm and it reflected who we are as a couple. Very laid-back and carefree. Things like mason jars filled with flowers my sister arranged for us, burlap table settings and favors made by my grandmother made our wedding truly “ours”.

Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?

Yes! I made and brought my own cake, lemon bars and cookie favors from work (I work at a bakery back home). All of the flowers were selected and arranged by my sister. My grandmother packaged all of the favors and tied them with personalized ribbon and pictures from our engagement shoot. She also made us a picture board that we had on display next to the guest book.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We decided to have our wedding in Florida over where we live (Long Island, NY). Weddings here cost much more than what our budget allowed. Because we had a “destination wedding”, we were able to have a gorgeous day for a quarter of the price.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! In the end, you are getting married to the love of your life. Also, don’t let anyone else get in the way of what you want. It is YOUR day!

What was your biggest splurge?

The biggest splurge was definitely the food and drinks. Originally we were going to go for just casual barbecue and we were even thinking of catering it ourselves… Our vendor, Affordable Catering, went above and beyond our expectations and everything ended up being absolutely delicious. Totally worth it!

What was your favorite detail?

The venue really was just beautiful. The barn on the lake with the string lights and the sunset was stunning.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

It all became such a blur and felt like it was over so fast, but my most memorable moment was definitely walking hand in hand with my new husband after saying “I do”! We both had huge smiles on our faces. That picture actually is one of our favorites!
