helping brides create beautiful weddings without breaking the bank

real budget wedding

This week’s wedding of the week is a little different in that the bride was not super detailed in her budget keeping. However, she did quite a bit herself to save where she could and the details in this wedding are so amazing (and re-creatable) that I felt that I couldn’t NOT feature it. Once you see the bride’s ombré wedding dress, I’m sure you’ll agree. :) Syd and Jake had their wedding at a family home and kept things fairly simple to save money. There are lots of details but mostly handmade by the bride which makes them oh-so-special. Hope you enjoy this fun and savvy wedding as much as I did! xoxo Jessica

Clovis, California  ||  Janzen Family Home

What was your budget?

I really don’t know exact amounts, but we did alot ourselves to save money and held the wedding at a family home. I can tell you that the bulk of money was spent on tacos, artisan popsicles and basic landscaping touches around the home where we held the wedding. My dress was my splurge, however it was still only $700 and I did handmade changes to it as well.

How many guests did you have?

approximately 200

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

I am a metalsmith/jeweler/sculptor, so my very personal addition was a metal hat/headpiece and matching belt for myself and a one of a kind piece of jewelry for each of my 10 bridesmaids, the groom, and best man. I also added metal touches to the guestbook and made both my and my husbands wedding bands.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Probably choosing a family home to be our venue.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Let people help you. Don’t be afraid to say no to their ideas, but don’t be controlling if you don’t have to. The more community involvement, the better!

What was your biggest splurge?

My dress, my shoes, and the food I think.

What was your favorite detail?

The view from the ceremony (looking off in the distance you could see Yosemite), as well as surprising my husband with the whole crowd singing as I came down the aisle with my father.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Coming down the aisle and the three hour dance party that followed the food!

Love love love! Great feature, if I do say so myself 😉 That dress really was spectacular :) And that photo with the dress hanging on the art piece: I didn’t know it but the artist himself was at the wedding and when he saw the photo he loved it!

I must tell you, it was one of the most beautiful weddings I ever saw….the couple, the dress, the hand-made touches everywhere, the location, the incredible dance music, the elegant/rustic feel. Stunning. xo

My ideal place to get married is in Santa Barbara. However almost anywhere on the California coast would be perfect. Congrats to the wonderful couple.
